  We'll Meet Again, 1940's Party Celebrates Southampton Hotel Anniversary  
             
 

Staff at the Express by Holiday Inn Southampton West invited 70 residents from Nursling and Rownhams Senior Residents Association to celebrate the 60th anniversary of VE Day. Folk were treated to a game of bingo and a raffle where the prizes included Pears soap and bananas, items that seem everyday to us now but were certainly very scarce in 1945.

Food also had a 1940's theme with Spam, fish paste sandwiches, tea and cake all on the menu. Staff and guests also joined in the mood donning outfits from the War years. "We have heard some great stories from our guests about their wartime experiences," said hotel general manager Joanne Landon. "We thought this would be a fitting way to celebrate the hotel's fourth anniversary and bring a bit of good cheer to some of our special neighbours," she added.
